DGA, WGA & SAG-AFTRA Protest Emmys’ Decision To Cut Categories From Telecast, Say It “Devalues” Contributions Of People Academy Means To Honor

The DGA, the WGA and SAG-AFTRA have come together to push back on the decision to cut five categories — two acting, two directing and one directing — from the main 2026 Emmy telecast Sept. 14 on NBC.

The Emmy Awards, established in 1949, originally included only a few categories, but have expanded significantly as the television industry has grown and diversified.
